Bahrain 'terror network' dismantled

Manama, September 5, 2010

Bahrain's security forces have accused 23 activists of forming a terrorist network aiming to topple the country's government.

They revealed yesterday how a network of groups, both here and abroad, co-ordinated acts of arson, vandalism and destruction, targeting specific areas of Bahrain.

All this, despite reforms significantly improving housing, health, education and the general well-being of all citizens, said officials.

The 23 are among some 250 arrested since mid-August.

Officials said the security forces had dismantled and neutralised terror plots threatening the country's security and stability.

Prosecutors named the Bahrain-based leaders of the network as Abduljalil Al Singace, Mohamed Habeeb Al Saffaf, Abdulhadi Al Mokhaidar along with London-based Bahraini nationals, Saeed Al Shehabi and Husain Mushaima.

They also outlined the wider members of the network which include academics, taxi drivers, civil servants, dentists, administrators and unemployed Bahrainis receiving state benefit.

The network was revealed as being organised into five layers covering the supervision and planning of terrorist acts, through to logistical support and propaganda.

The Civil Service Bureau, meanwhile, said instigators involved in the terror network will be suspended from work and face tough legal action. The bureau will act in co-ordination with the ministries of Education, Health and Municipalities and Agriculture.  - TradeArabia News Service
